Safari will automatically unzip zip archives that are downloaded, which is quite annoying.
To stop Safari from automatically e.g. unzipping downloaded files, follow these steps:
- Click on “Safari” in the top menu bar, then select “Preferences” or “Settings” (depending on your Safari version).
- In the Preferences/Settings window, go to the “General” tab.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the General tab.
- Uncheck the box next to “Open ‘safe’ files after downloading”.
After completing these steps, Safari will no longer automatically unzip downloaded files. Instead, it will save them as compressed .zip files, allowing you to manage them manually.
